MILKSHAKE VS. MALTED SHAKE

23 Mar

When you look for a  refreshing beverage, ‘A Shake’ might be the first thing that clicks your mind. But have you ever considered that what you want is a milkshake or a malted shake. Now you must be thinking - What exactly is the difference between malt and a shake?

Let’s try to find out the difference between the two. The thing that differentiate one from the other is the malted milk powder.  Although from the first glance it might seem not so important but when it comes to nutritional value, taste and consistency then it makes a huge difference. As malt tastes sweet and nutty and has thicker consistency.

WHAT IS MALTED SHAKE?

As mentioned earlier, malted milk powder creates the main difference between the two. Malted milk powder is a powdered gruel made from barley malt powder or malted barley, wheat flour, and evaporated milk.  The inclusion of malted milk powder enhances the malt’s flavor, making it sweeter and gives  it a thicker consistency. It comes in many different flavors including chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry and is easy to digest.

Malted milk is not only tasty but is also healthy as it is rich in fiber, potassium, folate, and vitamin B6 which helps with many problems such as lowering cholesterol, reducing risk of cardiac disease etc.

WHAT IS MILKSHAKE?

Milkshakes are the shakes that are made with milk, ice cream, and additional flavoring or sweeteners such as chocolate syrup. A milkshake can be made without ice cream, or with low-fat dairy products if you want to cut calories without losing delicious taste. Or, you can even make a fruit-based, dairy-free shake as a healthy and refreshing beverage.

DIFFERENCE BETWEEN MALTED SHAKE AND MILKSHAKE

  • A malt is a type of milkshake, but a milkshake will never be a malt since it’s made without malted milk powder.

  • A malt has a thicker consistency than a milkshake due to the added malted milk powder.

  • A milkshake is usually made when you mix your ice cream or frozen yogurt, milk, and flavoring in the blender.  A malted shake is when you add the malted milk powder after you have mixed your shake.

Milkshakes and malted shakes, both are great at their own places, and it’s your call to decide which one you want to go with. Both these beverages contain a lot of sugar and if health is one of your major concerns then you should go with malt.
